Club Show Report 2007

I would like to thank The Irish Dachshund Club for the invitation to judge your Breed Championship Show on the 13th of October.

The entry was very good though some of the dogs were absent. The organisation and my stewards were perfect and the atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly.

The overall quality was very good and I gave excellent to 50 dogs, very good to 43 dogs, good to one dog and in the puppy classes very promising to 13 dogs and promising to 4 dogs. The dogs were behaving very well having very nice characters.

The reasons for giving "very good" were most often the lack of angulation, not enough drive in the movement, too upright placed shoulders followed by an unnatural passage from the neck to the back or in some cases false standing on the front legs. On some dogs the bite was a little tight the lower canine going up to the gum. That was the reason for the only "good" I gave.

All the miniatures had a very good size, some of the wire-haired standards were quite heavy with a bit clumsy movements. The things I wanted too see were the overall harmony, well placed shoulders, good length on the upper arm, proper fore chest and rib gage, solid top line and a good length on the second thigh and elastic movements.

My BOB Long-Haired Miniature was Ch. Jadag Kadbry Rose of Donnadoon, a lovely chocolate dapple bitch moving very well, BOS a very handsome black and tan dog Walpines Mozart with a great top line and carriage.

BOB Smooth-Haired Miniature was Ch. Batendach Copyright, a beautiful black and tan bitch with a fantastic outline, excellent fore chest and hind angulation and a super head. In the bitch class. I had two beautiful dapple bitches with an excellent colour and a very nice anatomy. BOS was Ch & Int. Ch High Flier, a red dog with a beautiful fore chest and overall balance. It was a very good variety with very typical dogs.

BOB Smooth-Haired Kaninchen was Pinedax Dainty Lady, with a good body and legs but the head with the typical kaninchen faults.

Some of the Wire-Haired Miniatures were lacking in angulation and fore chest but not my BOB bitch Auchans Minnie the Minx coming from the Puppy class. An excellent harmony, super head and expression, lovely fore chest and upper arm, well ribbed and excellent hind quarters moving freely. She was also my BIS Puppy. Her father Ch. Auchans Roger The Dojjer was my BOS, a beautiful dog with an excellent head and top line, well ribbed and standing and moving truly. Super coat. In the Junior Dog class I had a beautiful dapple Trelanis Spot On, with a prominent fore chest, excellent head, a most beautiful colour just lacking a wee bit in the hind quarters. The Reserve Green Star winners were both very nice and typical.

As I already said the Standard Wire-Haired were on the heavier side and a little bit clumsy when moving. However my BOB bitch Ch. Barmauds Kathrine Hepburn was very elegant and typical moving very freely. Her brother Ch. Barmaud Dean Martin was BOS, a dog with a beautiful fore chest. The reserve green star bitch came from the Veteran class Ch Leandic Lucky Song, also a very elegant and typical bitch. She was my BIS Veteran, too In the champion class was type wise a very balanced and beautiful bitch AM. Ch. Full Circle Angel´s Song who did not move to her benefit today.

Standard Smooth-Haireds were a small variety, my BOS being Ch. Ian of Donnamark, a very typical red dog, with an excellent size and outline, beautiful head. He could easily win anywhere in Europe. His son from the Puppy class was the Reserve Green Star winner. The Reserve Green Star winner bitch came from the Puppy class, too. A truly promising black and tan bitch Hampdach Dreamboat at Donnamark, only 6 months of age, but with a perfect harmony, beautiful head, excellent fore chest, well ribbed.

My BOB came from the Junior Bitch class. A black and tan Sontag Sheila Blige for Celandine. Excellentbalance, very elegant. A most beautiful head, beautiful passage from the neck to the back. Well ribbed. Excellent shoulder. Standing and moving truly with a great drive. She was my Reserve BIS.

There were not many Standard Long-Haireds shown, a beautiful veteran Ch & GB Ch. Glasvey Lilac in great condition, a Champion dog Ch, GB & Int Ch. Darsom Zwagerson, a very handsome red dog with an excellent coat and outline, showing and moving very well. He was my BOS.

My BOB came from the Champion bitch class, Ch. & GB. Ch. Dachville Perfect Blend. A breathtaking black and tan bitch where everything matches. Perfect harmony, super coat, beautiful head, excellent fore chest and shoulder. Well ribbed. Holding her top line in every situation. Moving with an excellent drive on her sound legs. Excellent size. One of the most beautiful long haired standards I have ever seen. She was my Best in Show.
